# Brand Voice (in AI prompting)

> Brand voice, in AI prompting, is the documented tone, vocabulary, and style rules a model is given so every draft sounds like one company, not the model.

Brand voice, in AI prompting, is the documented set of tone, vocabulary, structure, and example rules that a model is given so that everything it drafts sounds like one specific company instead of like the model's default register.

Every large model has a house style, and left alone it will write in it: balanced sentences, a hedge in every paragraph, the same handful of transitions. A brand voice definition is the correction. The useful ones look less like a mood board and more like a linter: a positioning sentence, do-and-don't pairs with before-and-after examples, a vocabulary list, formatting norms, and two or three exemplar paragraphs the model can imitate. The exemplars carry most of the weight, for the same reason [few-shot prompting](/glossary/few-shot-prompting) works better than description.

Where that definition lives decides how well it holds. Pasted into a chat, it applies once and drifts. Placed in a [system prompt](/glossary/system-prompt) or a Project instruction, it applies to every chat in that workspace. Packaged as an [agent skill](/glossary/agent-skills), it loads only when a writing task matches and travels with the user between Claude chat, Cowork, Claude Code, and the Word add-in, which is the approach the [brand voice with Claude skills](/guides/marketing/brand-voice-with-claude-skills) guide builds and the [brand voice profiler](/skills/marketing/brand-voice-profiler) skill automates by deriving the rules from your best published pieces. Marketing platforms such as Jasper and Copy.ai sell the same object under the same name, with an admin console around it; [Claude vs ChatGPT for writing](/guides/comparisons/claude-vs-chatgpt-for-writing) compares the two assistants on exactly this point.

Enforcement is the other half. A voice definition drafts; a review pass such as the [brand check](/commands/marketing/brand-check) command catches the drift the definition missed. [Claude Code for marketers](/guides/marketing/claude-code-for-marketers) wires both into one workflow.
