Deepl

DeepL provides AI translation for text and documents, with preferred-term glossaries and paid options for team translation and customization workflows.

Updated

DeepL is a translation option for teams preparing text or documents for another locale. Evaluate it with the actual source context, approved terminology, and review requirements rather than a few isolated sentences that merely read smoothly.

DeepL glossaries apply preferred term translations with contextual grammar handling and include team glossary workflows. DeepL glossary documentation.

A selected glossary can be applied during file translation. File translation has account requirements across its supported web, desktop, and API workflows. DeepL file glossary help.

DeepL is categorized here as freemium because its Pro page compares free and paid offerings. Check the capabilities of the chosen offering. DeepL Pro.

Evaluate a contextual review packet

Illustrative fictional fixture: a help paragraph says export is available after admin approval, prohibits deleting an archive, and contains a repeated {{workspace_name}} placeholder. A terminology record supplies the intended product meaning and preferred target term. This is a proposed evaluation exercise; no DeepL translation trial or qualified target-language approval is reported.

Assign a stable source ID and freeze the approved source. Record the target locale, audience, publication context, selected glossary, and target output version. Have a qualified language reviewer compare the output to those inputs.

Inspect the approval condition and prohibition explicitly. Ask the reviewer whether the target preserved them, whether the preferred term is appropriate in context, and whether the reader could understand the intended action. Keep findings beside the affected segment and preserve the proposed repair as a revision the reviewer can inspect.

Run a separate exact-token check on each placeholder occurrence. A glossary term may need grammatical adaptation, while a product placeholder may need identical bytes. Do not use exact glossary-string matching as the sole language judgment or assume a terminology feature preserves all literal tokens.

If the source owner revises a product claim during the trial, reopen the affected target segment. Record the new source version rather than asking the reviewer to approve a translation against a moving reference. This tests the handoff as well as the draft.

After the final correction, compare the delivered target version to the approved revision. An otherwise successful evaluation is incomplete if the publication workflow accidentally uses an earlier draft or changes the token during copying.

Fit the drafting and review stages

The AI localization-review guide prepares source-target context and a release record. Machine translation post-editing explains the human meaning review that follows a machine draft. Carry the team's brand-voice rules into the packet as an approved reference.

For supplied local files, localization-glossary-builder helps prepare terminology, and the localization copy reviewer proposes findings. check-translation-tokens compares the supported named placeholders and their multiplicity. These optional Claude Code files do not connect to DeepL or certify translation quality.

Choose the product surface and plan that match the intended input, access, and collaboration workflow. Keep a qualified reviewer and an identifiable approval version in the process; those are part of the team's declared output requirement.
