Glean

Glean is an enterprise AI search and assistant platform that retrieves company knowledge through configured connectors and source access controls.

Updated

Consider Glean when your handoff problem begins with finding the evidence. Before evaluating a company-wide search service, name the records your team needs, the systems where they live, and the people who must be able to inspect them.

Glean offers enterprise workplace search through a sales-led organizational product. This profile describes vendor documentation, not a test of search quality. Glean enterprise search

Retrieval depends on the configured sources

Glean connectors fetch content and source permissions. Indexed access uses mirrored permission snapshots; live and hybrid behavior varies by connector and setup. Avoid treating every result as an instantly current copy. Glean connector documentation

Define the retrieval task separately from the business judgment. Finding a launch document does not prove its date is approved. Finding a newer proposal does not prove it replaced the decision. Open the supporting record and inspect its relevant version, wording, and conditions before using it in a deliverable.

For an evaluation, ask the organization responsible for the setup which sources are included, which retrieval mode applies, how access changes are handled, and how reviewers can inspect originals. Check those answers for the intended sources and users instead of assuming the same behavior across all systems.

An illustrative handoff exercise

This is an illustrative fictional scenario, not a live Glean session. A marketer preparing a campaign handoff needs to find an approved launch note and compare it with a newer proposal. First record the question and the permitted source scope. Then inspect the retrieved candidates in their originals.

Add the selected note's source location and version to the handoff register. Preserve any approval condition. If the newer proposal lacks explicit acceptance or supersession, list the discrepancy for an owner rather than choosing a date from the search result order.

The AI project-handoff workflow provides a packet and receiver check for this stage. Data Lineage explains how tracing inputs and transformations differs from verifying the resulting claim. The local handoff artifacts in that workflow do not provide Glean access; access must actually be configured in the organization.

Availability and evaluation boundaries

The enterprise pricing classification signals an organizational sales process, not a published numerical quote. Confirm the arrangement, source coverage, and required access with the vendor and your team before making a product choice.

A useful evaluation should record whether a receiver can locate the source, inspect it, and identify unresolved contradictions. Also record unsuccessful searches and inaccessible records. A convincing generated answer does not eliminate those gaps, and this profile makes no claim about training practices, geographic storage, or tested accuracy.

Adjacent workplace options

Microsoft Copilot is listed as a possible workplace knowledge-retrieval alternative; its surface, source coverage, and setup differ. Notion MCP operates over authorized Notion access. Neither comparison implies a feature-equivalent replacement across every company system.

Choose around your existing source environment and the evidence the receiving teammate must inspect. A local packet with explicitly selected files may be sufficient when the retrieval scope is already small and known.
