Start on Pro: it includes Claude Code, Cowork, and Claude Design and covers a solo content marketer. Move to Max 5x when scheduled Cowork runs and long Claude Code sessions hit the five-hour limit more than occasionally. Go to Team the day a second person needs the brand project, with Premium seats for the heavy users. Agencies want Team's per-member limits.

Key takeaways

  • Every paid plan includes Claude Code, Cowork, and Claude Design (still in beta); the tiers differ in usage per five-hour session and per week, not in which surfaces open.
  • Usage is one pool: Anthropic says activity across claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Desktop counts against the same limit, and connectors are token-intensive.
  • Solo content marketer: Pro. Heavy Cowork or Design use: Max 5x, then 20x if it keeps running out. Two or more people: Team, with Premium seats for heavy users.
  • Team needs at least two members, applies limits per member, and adds shared Projects with view or edit rights, admin tools, spend controls, and connectors.
  • Pick the model per task, not per plan: the fastest tier for bulk rewrites and tagging, the middle for most drafting, the top for the piece that matters.

The plan question is simpler than the pricing page makes it look, because every paid Claude plan opens the same doors. Pro, Max, and Team all include Claude Code, Cowork, and Claude Design (in beta as of September 2026); what changes is how much you can do per five-hour session and per week, and on Team, who administers it. So the decision is a usage forecast plus a sharing question. This guide walks it by situation, names the plan, and points to the page that holds the numbers, which move too often to repeat here.

How limits work

Two facts from Anthropic's support docs shape everything below. Usage is one pool: "your usage of all different Claude product surfaces (claude.ai, Claude Code, Claude Desktop) counts towards the same usage limit." A long Cowork run in the morning means less chat in the afternoon. And what burns usage fastest is documented: "the length and complexity of your conversations, the features you use, which Claude model you're chatting with, and the effort level you've selected." The same article singles out two things marketers do constantly. Long conversations "that trigger automatic context management consume more of your usage limit," and "tools and connectors are token-intensive."

The tiers are multipliers on that pool. Pro is the base. Max 5x "provides five times more usage per session than the Pro plan," Max 20x twenty times. On Team, Standard seats get "1.25x more usage per session than the Pro plan," Premium seats 6.25x, and "usage limits on Team plans are per-member, rather than applied to the team as a whole." Those multipliers are the whole difference between the tiers as of September 2026; the dollar figures behind them are in Claude plans compared (2026).

By situation

Solo content marketer

Pro. You are drafting in claude.ai from a brand Project, running the occasional Cowork task over a folder, building a one-pager in Claude Design now and then, and trying Claude Code on an export. Pro includes all of it. Anthropic's upgrade guidance is to move up when you "consistently hit limits," and at this level of use you will not. Set up the skills in Claude Skills for Marketers before you spend anything more.

Small team sharing brand context

Team. The moment a second person needs the style guide, the personas, and the past work in the same place, the Team plan earns itself, because a Project on Team can be shared with "Can view" or "Can edit" permissions. One owner maintains the brand Project; everyone else works from it. Team also adds admin tools, central billing, role-based permissions, spend controls, and workplace connectors (Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, GitHub, Microsoft 365, Slack). It requires at least two members. Give a Premium seat to whoever runs the batch jobs and Standard seats to everyone drafting in chat. The surface map for the team is Claude for Marketing Teams.

Heavy Cowork and Claude Design use

Max 5x, then 20x if it keeps running out. A scheduled Cowork task every morning over a large folder, connectors enabled, plus Claude Design sessions that iterate on a deck for an hour, is the most usage-intensive pattern a solo marketer runs. Anthropic frames the path exactly this way: Max 5x "if you consistently hit limits," 20x "if you're on the Max 5x plan" and still hit them. Max also carries "priority access" to new models and features. Start at 5x and let the reset warnings tell you whether you need 20x. If the heavy user is one person on a team, a Premium Team seat is the equivalent move.

Agency

Team, with Premium seats by role. Per-member limits are the point: an account manager's afternoon should not be drained by the content lead's thirty-post batch. Role-based permissions and spend controls let you cap what each seat can use, and a Project per client keeps brand context separated. Enterprise sits above Team for organizations whose procurement requires it; whether that applies depends on your clients, not your workload.

Anything running unattended in Claude Code

API credits through the Claude Console. A nightly script that checks every draft for unsourced statistics, or a Claude Code routine that rebuilds the sitemap and reports broken links, should not compete with your own session limit. Claude Code logs into a Console account with prepaid credits and you pay per token. The founder version of this decision, Which Claude Plan Should a Founder Pay For?, covers the API route in more detail.

Picking a model

Every plan lets you choose the model, and marketers overspend by defaulting to the largest. Anthropic ships a family with three tiers; match the tier to the task:

TaskTierWhy
Tagging, bulk rewrites, meta descriptions, first passes over a batchFastestSpeed and low usage matter more than nuance
Most drafting, briefs, repurposing, email sequencesMiddleThe default for real work; best quality per unit of usage
The flagship piece, the positioning doc, the analysis you will act onTopQuality is the point; use it for the piece, not the whole session

The current names, where each sits, and which ones are gated to particular plans are in Choosing the right model. For the main tiers, model choice is independent of plan: you do not need Max to use a better model, you need Max to use it for hours.

The short answer

Start on Pro. Go to Team the day a second person needs the brand Project, with Premium seats for the heavy users. Go to Max 5x if you are solo and scheduled Cowork runs or long Claude Code sessions keep hitting the five-hour limit, and 20x only when 5x keeps running out. Push unattended jobs to API credits. Choose the model per task. The numbers live in Claude plans compared (2026), the workflows in Claude Code for Marketers, and the rest of the toolkit at the marketers hub.

Frequently asked questions

Does the free plan include Cowork or Claude Code?
No. Skills and chat are on Free, and Anthropic's help center lists Projects there too, capped at five, though the pricing page files Projects under the paid plans. Claude Code, Cowork, and Claude Design need Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise. A marketer who only wants to draft in chat with a brand Project can stay on Free; anyone who wants a folder or a page worked on needs a paid plan.
Should a solo marketer start on Pro or Max?
Pro. It includes every surface. The difference is how much you get per five-hour session, and Anthropic's own guidance is to move to Max 5x when you consistently hit limits and to Max 20x when 5x is not enough. Scheduled Cowork tasks and connector-heavy sessions are what push a marketer there.
Is the Team plan worth it for two marketers?
Yes if you want one shared brand Project with edit rights, one bill, and per-member limits so one person's batch job does not drain the other's afternoon. It requires at least two members and lets you mix Standard and Premium seats. If you only want two accounts and no sharing, two Pro subscriptions are simpler.
Which Claude model should a marketer use?
Match it to the task rather than the plan. Use the fastest, cheapest model for tagging, bulk rewrites, and first passes; the middle model for most drafting, briefs, and repurposing; the top model for the piece that will be read by many people or the analysis you will act on. Every paid plan lets you choose among the main tiers; the plan mostly affects how long you can use a model, not which task it suits. Our model guide notes any plan-gated exception.
