Canva is the design tool most non-designers already have open, which is exactly why designers end up in it: the brand kit you set up is the one a hundred colleagues will use to make a social post at 4pm on a Friday. Its AI features are bundled as Magic Studio, which Canva positions as bringing AI together in one place so people do not have to toggle between tools or learn different software.

The practical shape of it in 2026 is a conversational layer over a template library. Canva AI opens from the homepage or from a button in the editor and works as a chat panel where you make changes to a design in real time. Underneath sit the named features that predate it, still reachable individually.

• Magic Design. Generates a set of designs from a text prompt across presentations, posters, cards, flyers, invitations, business cards, postcards, documents, and social designs, so the starting point is a choice rather than a blank page.

In a designer's workflow

Canva is rarely where a designer does the interesting work. It is where the design system meets everyone else. The highest-leverage hour you spend in it is the brand kit and the templates, not the individual asset.

A pattern worth stealing: design the master asset where you actually work, then land it in Canva as a locked brand template so the AI features generate variants inside your rails rather than around them. Plan names changed. As of September 2026 the lineup is Canva Free, Canva Pro, Canva Business, and Canva Enterprise. Canva Business is the small-team plan that replaced Canva Teams, which the help center says is no longer available for new sign-ups or upgrades, with existing subscribers keeping their pricing and features. Business adds team collaboration, Canva Grow Insights, higher usage of premium AI tools, access to Leonardo.Ai and Flourish Presenter plans, and a print discount on top of everything in Pro. Enterprise adds customizable brand controls, security features, and admin controls. Exact prices and AI usage limits move often enough that the pricing page is the only reliable source.

Where it fits against the alternatives: Gamma is the sharper tool when the deliverable is a deck or a hosted site, Framer when it is a marketing website you will publish, and Relume when you want site structure you can export to Figma or code.
