Canva
A design platform whose Magic Studio and Canva AI features generate designs, copy, and edits on top of your brand kit, across web, desktop, and mobile.
Canva bundles its AI features under Magic Studio: Magic Design generates a set of designs from a prompt, Magic Write drafts copy against your brand voice, Magic Edit changes part of an image, and Canva AI runs all of it from a conversational panel in the editor. Plans are Free, Pro, Business, and Enterprise, with Teams closed to new sign-ups.
Canva is the design tool most non-designers already have open, which is exactly why designers end up in it: the brand kit you set up is the one a hundred colleagues will use to make a social post at 4pm on a Friday. Its AI features are bundled as Magic Studio, which Canva positions as bringing AI together in one place so people do not have to toggle between tools or learn different software.
The practical shape of it in 2026 is a conversational layer over a template library. Canva AI opens from the homepage or from a button in the editor and works as a chat panel where you make changes to a design in real time. Underneath sit the named features that predate it, still reachable individually.
Highlights
- Magic Design. Generates a set of designs from a text prompt across presentations, posters, cards, flyers, invitations, business cards, postcards, documents, and social designs, so the starting point is a choice rather than a blank page.
- Magic Write. Canva's text generator, powered by OpenAI, for first drafts of copy, outlines, captions, and ideas. The current version includes a brand voice check that measures your writing against your brand's tone.
- Magic Edit. Select part of an image, describe the change, and Canva adds to, replaces, or edits that region rather than regenerating the whole asset.
- Canva AI as the front door. A conversational workspace, reachable from the homepage or the editor, that drives the rest in real time.
- Brand kits and brand controls. Logos, colors, fonts, imagery, templates, and guidelines in one place, with bulk logo and image replacement across existing designs. Up to 5 brands on Pro and up to 100 on Business, with admin-set font and color limits, brand folders, and approvers.
- Everywhere your team is. Browser, desktop apps for Windows 10 and later and for Intel and Apple silicon Macs, plus iOS, Android, and Chromebook.
In a designer's workflow
Canva is rarely where a designer does the interesting work. It is where the design system meets everyone else. The highest-leverage hour you spend in it is the brand kit and the templates, not the individual asset.
A pattern worth stealing: design the master asset where you actually work, then land it in Canva as a locked brand template so the AI features generate variants inside your rails rather than around them. Claude Design supports this directly with a Send to Canva export, so a layout drafted from a conversation can become the template the rest of the company remixes.
Using the brand kit, make six variants of this launch announcement:
1080x1080, 1080x1920, and 1200x630, each in a light and a dark version.
Keep the headline wording exactly as written. Do not change the logo
lockup, the type scale, or the accent color.WARNING
Brand controls are the difference between a brand kit and a suggestion. Without admin-set font and color limits, a brand kit is a folder people can ignore. Set the controls before you roll the kit out, not after the first off-brand deck ships.
Good to know
Plan names changed. As of September 2026 the lineup is Canva Free, Canva Pro, Canva Business, and Canva Enterprise. Canva Business is the small-team plan that replaced Canva Teams, which the help center says is no longer available for new sign-ups or upgrades, with existing subscribers keeping their pricing and features. Business adds team collaboration, Canva Grow Insights, higher usage of premium AI tools, access to Leonardo.Ai and Flourish Presenter plans, and a print discount on top of everything in Pro. Enterprise adds customizable brand controls, security features, and admin controls. Exact prices and AI usage limits move often enough that the pricing page is the only reliable source.
Where it fits against the alternatives: Gamma is the sharper tool when the deliverable is a deck or a hosted site, Framer when it is a marketing website you will publish, and Relume when you want site structure you can export to Figma or code. Canva's advantage is distribution: it is the one your marketing, sales, and HR teams will actually open. Frequently asked questions
- What is Magic Studio?
- Magic Studio is the umbrella name for Canva's AI features. Canva describes it as bringing the best of AI together in one place so you do not have to toggle between multiple AI tools or learn different software. It covers Magic Design for generating designs from a prompt, Magic Write for copy, Magic Edit for changing part of an image, and the tools now surfaced through Canva AI.
- Which Canva plans exist in 2026?
- Free, Pro, Business, and Enterprise. Canva Business replaced Canva Teams: Canva's help center states Teams is no longer available for new sign-ups or upgrades, while existing Teams subscribers keep their pricing and features. Business adds team collaboration, Canva Grow Insights, higher usage of premium AI tools, and access to Leonardo.Ai and Flourish Presenter plans on top of Pro.
- Do Canva's AI features respect my brand?
- That is the point of the brand kit. Canva says its AI uses your Brand Kit and Brand Templates, meaning the colors, fonts, tone, and style you defined. Pro accounts can hold up to 5 separate brands and Business accounts up to 100, and admins can set brand controls that limit which fonts and colors the team can use, plus approvers who sign off before a design is published.
- Is Canva AI on the free plan?
- Partly. Canva says Canva AI is available to everyone, with a range of AI-powered tools on the Free plan and more advanced features on paid plans. Premium AI usage allowances are higher on Business than on Pro. Check Canva's pricing page for current limits, since they change with each release.
